How to Play PetHunter
Step 1: Choose Your Mode
Hunting Mode: Search for a pet in your area before chasing it down. All types of pets are available, including rare and special pets.
Training Mode: Start a chase immediately against training pets. Great for structured fitness sessions without needing to find a pet first.
Step 2: Select a Distance
Choose the distance you want to cover, from 100 meters up to ultra-marathon distances. You can select a challenge that matches your goals, whether you're walking or racing.
Step 3: Select a Level
The level determines how fast the pet will run — from slower than walking pace up to world-record running speeds. A pet matching your selected distance and level will be randomly chosen. Some pets are rare, while others are common based on your selections.
Hunting Pets
When you locate a pet, run towards it to start the chase! You can choose your own route for safety reasons — stick to your favorite running paths while tracking down your target. The direction you run is completely up to you.
Pet Escapes
Pets have a limited number of escapes. Longer distance pets (like marathon pets) have many escape chances, meaning sprinting after them may exhaust you before you can catch them! It’s usually better to run the full distance rather than rely on sprinting.
Pet Tiring
As pets approach the end of their assigned distance, they begin to tire. Their running speed slows dramatically near the finish, making them easier to catch. For example, a 10K pet will run at full speed most of the way but will slow down in the final kilometer and become very catchable in the last few hundred meters.
If you catch a pet before completing the full distance, don't worry — your activity will continue recording so you can complete your entire run.
Saving and Sharing Your Hunts
Each hunt is recorded as a full GPS activity. You can review your hunts in your user profile and share them with friends by entering their email address. You have full control over your sharing settings and can choose whether or not others can view your activities.
Creating Your Own Pets
Earn tokens by catching pets! Tokens allow you to create and release your own virtual pets into the wild. You can release pets worldwide or limit them to specific areas. Your pet’s difficulty will be based on the highest distance and level you have achieved.
You can upload a photo to represent your custom pet — but please ensure the image is appropriate for all audiences (this app is rated 3+ years). All new pets must be approved before they become available for others to hunt.
